Australia Vs South Africa 3rd Test Match – Day Night Format
Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
24-28 of Nov, 1430.
Once again the cricketing test match world is transfixed on this day night battle with the pink ball, between a rebuilding Australian team and a South African (SA) team displaying little fear on international terrain.
Australia’s summer of cricket is in real turmoil to date. South Africa have an unbeatable two nil lead in the best of three series. This has forced the Australian selectors to play three new players, M. Renshaw, P. Handscomb, N. Maddison and recalled J. Bird with M. Wade (who is colour blind and admitted to not seeing the pink ball as well as the red ball) in a bid to salvage something from this game.
It’s not all smooth sailing in the South African camp with their captain, Faf Du Plessis looking to contest his “guilty” charge for ball tampering, but cleared to play in the test match. They won’t confirm their team list until after the toss, but they are showing an united front behind their captain.
The first Day/Night match (Aus Vs NZ 27-29 Nov 2015) only lasted 3 days with an Australian Victory of 3 wickets. Warner, Smith, Lyon and Hazlewood are the only remaining players from that match. Mixed results with Warner scoring 1,34, Smith 53,14, Lyon 2/42, 1/36 but Hazlewood had an amazing match taking 3/66 and 6/70 for man of the match. Australia will need a similar mammoth effort from one of their bowlers to have a chance against a very good South African team.
The last time they played each other it was a drawn game in 2012, the same game now captain Faf Du Plessis made his test debut and was man of the match scoring 78 and was unbeaten on 110 batting his way through the last day. The only other player for SA still playing from that game is H. Amla who scored 11,17. However in their match against the Victorian XI (at the MCG) against the pink ball he scored 81, maybe a sign of change in his form.
Weather wise, it looks like great cricketing weather with no signs of rain and only one day with potential cloud cover.
In any sport the injection of new players can either enhance a team or cause more head aches for selectors. The Australian middle order has been brittle and like all young players these days they play without fear and will leave nothing to chance. However we believe it will be hard for them due to the momentum that South Africa have currently.
T. Shamsi bagged 4 wickets with the Pink ball where Lyon took 3/78 at Adelaide. It will be an interesting clash if Shamsi is selected to see which of these bowlers can exploit the pink ball.
Captains Knock, Smith Vs Du Plessis
It can be said neither captain has stamped their authority on these matches batting wise. With Smith heavily invested in the team changes and not in his best form he will be hoping to change this. Will the distractions of the press and ICC investigation into Faf Du Plessis harden his resolve or be too much and affect his performance.
We believe it will only strengthen this already dominate SA team for another victory.
